엄영수는 지난 2010년부터 한국방송코미디언협회를 이끌고 있다.Eom Young-soo has been leading the Korea Broadcasting Comedian Association since 2010. 앞서 코미디언연합회 회장직까지 더하면 약 23년째 한국방송 코미디를 위해 봉사하고 있는 셈이다.In addition to the previous chairmanship of the Comedian Federation, he has been serving for Korean broadcasting comedy for about 23 years.
이런 가운데, 엄영수의 선행 소식이 알려졌다.Meanwhile, Um Young-soo's good news was announced. 엄영수는 코미디언협회 설립 이후부터 지금까지 매년 3천만 원씩 기부를 하며 협회를 운영해왔다.Since the establishment of the Comedian Association, Eom Young-soo has operated the association by donating 30 million won every year. 엄영수는 7일 엑스포츠뉴스와의 전화 인터뷰를 통해 "코미디언협회 유지비, 코미디언들 식비, 행사 비용, 어려운 개그맨들 생활비, 치료비 등에 쓰여졌다"고 전했다.Eom Young-soo said in a telephone interview with Expo News on the 7th, "It was spent on maintaining the Comedian Association, eating comedians, event expenses, living expenses for comedians in need, and treatment expenses."
그는 "코미디언협회를 제가 만들었다."I created the Comedian Association. 코미디언이 돼서 보니까 우리가 협회가 없었다.When I became a comedian, I realized that we didn't have a society. 말이 안 되지 않나.It doesn't make sense. 영화인협회, 가수협회, 성우협회 등 대중문화와 관련한 협회가 있고 역사가 있다"며 "데뷔 때 코미디언협회를 만들어야겠다고 생각을 했고 2010년에 만들었다"고 설명했다.There are associations related to popular culture such as the Film Association, Singer Association, and Voice Actor Association, and there is a history. 그러면서 "우리나라 코미디언이 900명이 넘는데 방송하는 사람은 150명 밖에 안 된다."There are more than 900 comedians in Korea, but only 150 people broadcast. 나머지는 은퇴 상태거나 실업자여서 회비를 걷을 수가 없다.The rest of them are either retired or unemployed, so they cannot collect their dues. 코미디언협회를 유지해야 하니까 제가 그때부터 자비 운영, 셀프 기부를 한 거다.Since I have to maintain the Comedian Association, I have been operating and donating at my own expense since then. 그래도 저는 당시에 활동을 활발히 했으니까 가능했던 것 같다"라며 기부를 이어온 이유를 밝혔다.Still, I think it was possible because I was active at the time," he said, explaining the reason why he continued to donate.
또 엄영수는 "얼마를 기부했는지는 모르고 있었는데 어떤 단체에서 저한테 상을 준다고 공적 조회서를 만들어달라고 하더라.Also, Eom Young-soo said, "I didn't know how much I donated, but some organization asked me to make a public inquiry to give me a reward. '나는 좋은 일을 한 게 없는데?' 하다가 보니 금년까지 약 11년간 기부를 해왔더라"라며 "액수가 이렇게 되리라곤 생각을 안 했다."I haven't done anything good," he said, "I've been donating for about 11 years this year," adding, "I didn't think the amount would be this much." 아마 한 번에 내라고 했으면 못 했을 것 같다"고 웃어보였다.I don't think I could have done it if I had to pay it at once."
또 최근에 故 송해 유족이 1억을 기부했고, 방송인 김구라가 1천만 원, 안영미가 2천만 원을 기부하며 뜻을 보탰다고 전했다.It also said that the bereaved family of the late Song Hae recently donated 100 million won, broadcaster Kim Gu-ra donated 10 million won and Ahn Young-mi donated 20 million won.
꾸준히 선행을 이어오며 협회를 유지해온 엄영수는 "그 이후에도 많은 분들이 기부에 동참해주고 있다.Eom Young-soo, who has consistently continued his good deeds and maintained the association, said, "Many people have joined the donation since then. 알아주든 몰라주든 꾸준히 보람 있는 일을 해왔기 때문에 인정을 해주고 도와주는 게 아닌가 싶다.Regardless of whether you recognize it or not, I think it's because you've been doing something rewarding. 너무 감사하다"며 뿌듯함을 전했다.I'm very grateful."
12년째 코미디언협회장으로 활약 중인 엄영수는 "가장 큰 문제는 자금이었다.Eom Young-soo, who has been the president of the Comedian Association for 12 years, said, "The biggest problem was funds. 오랫동안 고생했지만 이렇게 많은 사람들이 도와주기 시작하니까 내가 그만 회장을 그만하고 다른 분께 넘겨도 되고 이어갈 수 있겠구나 싶다"며 "저는 할 일을 다 했으니까 조만간에 뒤로 빠져야겠다 싶다"고 전하기도 했다."I've been struggling for a long time, but since so many people are starting to help me, I think I can stop the chairman and hand it over to someone else," he said adding, "I've done my job, so I think I should step back soon."
마지막으로 그는 "코미디언이 왜 있느냐, 이렇게 팬데믹 사태가 오고 경제가 어려울 때 국민들을 위로하고 웃음을 드리라고 있는 거다.Finally, he said, "Why are there comedians? When such a pandemic comes and the economy is in trouble, we are supposed to comfort the people and give them laughter. 이렇게 어려울 때일수록 소외된 사람들, 어려운 사람들을 도와야 한다.The more difficult times like this are, the more you have to help the marginalized and the needy. 외국은 스타들이 엄청난 기부금을 내서 후배들, 무명 연예인들을 자립할 때까지 돕지 않나.Don't foreign stars give huge donations to help their juniors and unknown celebrities stand on their own feet? 우리도 서로 돕고 조금씩 마음을 보태면 모든 코미디언들이 희망차게 전진할 수 있다는 생각을 늘 한다"고 당부했다.We always think that if we help each other and add our hearts little by little, all comedians can move forward hopefully."
이어"코미디 정규 프로그램이 없어졌다.Then he said, "The regular comedy program has disappeared. 그렇다고 해서 코미디언이 사라진 것도 아니고 코미디가 사라진 것도 아니다.However, it does not mean that comedians have disappeared or that comedies have disappeared. 예능 프로그램을 보시면 코미디언이 주축을 이루고 있지 않나.If you look at entertainment programs, comedians are the main characters. 조금도 두려워하거나 침체하지 말고 기죽지 말았으면 좋겠다.Don't be afraid or depressed at all, and don't be discouraged. 우리가 약진하고 있고 세계적이라는 걸 우리만 모른다.We are the only ones who do not know that we are making strides and that we are global. 어느 때보다 잘 나가고 있다.It's going better than ever. 웃기기만 하면 된다"라며 코미디언 동료들에게 응원을 덧붙였다.All you have to do is make them laugh," he said, adding support to his comedian colleagues.
