25일(이하 현지시간) BBC 등 외신에 따르면 샌즈는 지난 13일 미국 캘리포니아주 로스앤젤레스 북쪽 샌 가브리엘 산맥의 볼디 보울 지역에서 하이킹을 하던 중 실종됐다.According to BBC and other foreign media on the 25th (local time), Sands disappeared while hiking in the Boldi Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains north of Los Angeles on the 13th.
캘리포니아 당국은 지상 및 항공 수색을 지속적으로 펼치고 있으나, 아직까지 어떠한 증거도 발견하지 못했다.California authorities continue to search for ground and air, but have yet to find any evidence. 구조팀은 지난 주에 샌즈가 실종된 것으로 알려진 장소 근처에서 샌즈의 차를 찾았다.Rescue teams found Sands' car last week near the site where he was reported missing.
특히 캘리포니아에는 최근 폭설과 강풍이 지속돼 수색에 난항을 겪고 있다.California, in particular, has recently experienced heavy snow and strong winds, making search difficult. 다만 당국은 날씨와 조건이 허용하는 한 수색을 계속할 것이라고 밝혔다.However, the authorities said they would continue the search as long as the weather and conditions allow.
가족 측은 수색팀에 고마움을 전했다.The family thanked the search team. 또한 친동생인 닉 샌즈는 "그가 떠났다는 사실을 받아들였다"며 "우리 모두는 여전히 희망하고 있지만, 그가 내 마음속에 있다는 것을 알기 때문에 작별 인사를 했다"고 전했다.He also said, "I accepted the fact that he left," adding, "We're all still hoping, but I said goodbye because I know he's in my heart."
1982년 영화 '프라이버츠 온 퍼레이드'로 데뷔한 샌즈는 '오션스13' '베네딕션' 등 다수의 작품에 출연하며 활발히 활동해 왔다.Sands, who made his debut in 1982 with the movie "Privacy on Parade," has been active in a number of works, including "Ocean's 13" and "Benediction." 국내에서는 '전망 좋은 방'(1985)로 이름을 알렸다.In Korea, it was known as the "Room with a Good View" (1985).
