'사내맞선이' 많은 사랑을 받을 수 있었던 이유 중 하나는 12부작으로 제작됐다는 점이다. 12화 안에 모든 결말을 내기 위해 빠른 호흡으로 이야기가 전개됐기 때문이다. 다만 너무 빠른 종영 탓에 일부 팬들은 시즌2를 제작했으면 좋겠다는 바람을 전하기도 했다.
김민규는 "12부작은 배우 입장에서도 짧고 작가님들에게도 마찬가지였을 것이라고 생각한다. 보통 16부작이니 4화가 축소가 되는 건데 그 부분이 아쉬우면서도 서사들이 더 잘 보일 수 있게 연기에 집중했다. 촬영기간이 짧고 에너지적으로도 집중할 수 있었던 점은 장점이라고 생각한다. 시즌2 이야기는 잠깐 하긴 했지만 너무 말도 안되는 내용으로 이야기를 해서 기억도 잘 안난다"라고 12부작을 겪어본 소감을 전했다.

이어 "돌아보니 제가 긍정적인 사람이었던 것 같다. 지금까지 많은 작품과 캐릭터를 했다. 물론 '그 정도로 많다고 하냐'고 하실 수도 있지만 저에게는 그런 시간들이 있었기 때문에 사내 맞선의 성훈이를 잘 표현할 수 있었던 것 같다. 나쁘지 않고 의미있던 20대라고 생각한다"고 긍정적인 마음가짐을 자랑했다.
다음 작품에서도 새로운 캐릭터를 보여주고 싶다는 김민규는 "완전 센 역할도 해보고 싶다. 설강화에서 보였던 캐릭터보다 센 것도 보여드리고 싶도 엄청나게 '돌아이' 같은 사이코패스 역할도 도전해보고 싶다. 성훈이와 비슷한 캐릭터라도 다른 색을 입혀서 도전해보고 싶다"며 끝없는 연기 욕심을 드러냈다.
김민규는 '사내맞선'이 가지는 의미에 대해 "이미지 변신을 시도했고 좋은 반응을 얻은 작품이다. 시청률도 좋았던 작품이라고 생각한다"고 전했다.
